About The Co-op

The Community Food Co-op was established in 1970 on the south side of Bellingham in the Good Earth Building in a space equivalent to our current produce department. Like many co-ops around the country that sprang up in the '70s, our co-op grew as a result of the new "health-food" movement, where people were looking for wholesome, inexpensive food. What happened could never have been predicted: with the growing interest in good food sold in an honest setting, the Co-op outgrew its tiny space and moved to a second location on State and Maple Streets. The Co-op moved yet again in 1994 to its current location at the corner of Forest and Holly. Our growth has been reflected by many co-ops nationwide because of people's desire to refine and re-define what they eat. We are fortunate to be located in a community that has helped and sustained us through the years. After all, "Food" may be our middle name, but it all starts with "Community."
