Mercantile

Here is one unique department! Take the old-fashioned corner store and drop it into the 21st century in the Co-op, stir in lots of color and fun, and you’ll have our mercantile department. This is where you’ll find the typical kitchen needs—strainers, pot scrubbers, veggie steamers, cookie sheets, spatulas, pepper mills, and wooden bowls—but that’s just the beginning. Our mercantile department offers a delightful and fun collection of colorful dishware, candles, incense, and locally produced music from BIMA (Bellingham Independent Music Association) and Soundings of the Planet. There are multicultural activity kits, riddle books, and puzzles and games for kids and people who like to be kids. All kinds of clothes, from batik skirts to cool rayon tops, from straw hats to wool caps, are offered year round. You can even get a yoga or tatami mat.

Our mercantile department is dedicated to offering you as many locally produced fun items as possible. And, you’ll find a world market, too.
